Small amounts create BIG CHANGES
5/14/2009
INJAZ Palestine is an independent Palestinian NGO working West bank and Gaza Strip. Our main goal is to enhance the economical opportunities for the Palestinian Youth through several unique programs. One of these programs is the Schools Adoption Program. INJAZ acts as the coordinator between sponsoring companies or parties and the adopted schools and allocates the funds provided by these institutions in order to enhance the schools’‘ learning environment and facilities, which has a direct influence on the quality of education in the adopted schools...
By the beginning of year 2009, INJAZ received funds from 6 companies who sponsored schools at Gaza and West Bank. INJAZ team started working with the schools on enhancing the schools learning environment through responding the urgent needs of each adopted school.
More than 1,500 students from one of Gazan schools were affected by this program, they had the opportunity to raise their voice to be heard well. A small fund was granted to focus on enhancing the school’‘s environment. The Zaytoun Prep School for Girls received School’‘s Radio System. The administration and the students are really happy and grateful for such great addition to their school life. On the same page and from the same funder, another 80 students were granted an enhanced call rooms that made them comfortable and more active. Their class room after the enhancement becomes different totally which effects didn’‘t stop on the 80 but the whole school students. Most the students keep visiting this class and wishing to be one of luckiest residents. The new painting and curtains changes the style and the look for the class to be more active and comfortable.

Growth & Potential in Palestine

The student impact of INJAZ Palestine has increased by nearly 3,000 percent since its humble beginnings in 2005. Currently reaching 10,000 young people, the organization is truly changing the future of the region. In 2007, INJAZ Palestine – INJAZ means “achievement” in Arabic – implemented seven JA programs in 29 schools with the assistance of 291 volunteers from 50 companies.
Palestinian youth are often overwhelmed with a sense of anarchy and feelings of hopelessness due to the region’s unstable political situation, teacher strikes, and unemployment rates as high as 60 percent. Now, for the first time, Palestinians from the private sector are walking into classrooms in Ramallah, Nablus and Hebron, discovering their entrepreneurial potential, refining their skills in communication and teamwork, learning the importance of creativity, and preparing to enter the workforce. The determination to succeed is due to the hard work of INJAZ Palestine.

On 2 April 2008, a local competition sponsored by National Beverage Company (NBC) was held among INJAZ students who participated in the INJAZ enriching company program. The planned event took place at Ramallah Cultural Palace. 100 participants of students were divided into five groups representing different schools in three districts’ Ramallah, Hebron and Nablus. Each group was trained and adopted by one of INJAZ supportive private sector companies; these companies were; the Arab Bank, Al Mashreq Insurance Company, Royal Industrial Trading Company, and PALTEL group. A committee consisting of three representatives from NBC, Cairo Amman Bank, and HULUL Business Solutions, and a representative from Talal Abu Gazaleh established the evaluation criteria, and judged the winning company. TARWEEJ from The Greek Catholic School of our Lady - Ramallah was the winner. The winning student company participated in the regional company competition which was held in Oman on the 5th of May, 2008. Twelve Arab countries who implement INJAZ programs had the opportunity to compete against each other at the regional company competition for the titles of the Best Company and the Best CEO.

What Dreams May Come

Last Month, Naseem Tarawnah took a look at one organization that is helping to plant the seeds of change in the Arab world: INJAZ. By bringing both the public and private sector together, INJAZ has been able to conduct various courses in schools throughout the region, igniting an unprecedented spark of ingenuity and sense of entrepreneurship in thousands of students. In mid-May, students from around the Arab world gathered in Amman to compete in a regional INJAZ competition that was destined to leave many inspired.
With bated breath the crowed broke into a chorus of applause while Queen’s “We are the Champions” played in the back ground. A small group of high schoolgirls dressed in gray t-shirts, jumped from their chairs and frantically embraced one another on stage with tears in their eyes. This was a moment of inspiration for all those in the prestigious audience that included Her Majesty Queen Rania, various ambassadors and regional business leaders. How these students arrived at this point is quite a story.
